The 51ºÚÁÏÍø (51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN) has 1-2 part-time Student Librarian positions available to support the work of the 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN consortium and its sister consortium the Electronic Health Library of 51ºÚÁÏÍø (eHLbc).

About 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN:

51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN is a partnership between the Province of British Columbia and post-secondary libraries. 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN develops, promotes, and maintains services that provide equitable, cost-effective access to information resources, helping post-secondary libraries meet the expanding information needs of the province's learners, educators, and researchers, regardless of their location in the province. 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN offices are currently located in the Discovery 2 building, Simon Fraser University (Burnaby Mountain campus).

51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN core services include:

  • negotiating and managing electronic resource licenses on behalf of partner libraries;
  • facilitating resource sharing among partner libraries through the Illume service;
  • coordinating virtual learning support services AskAway and WriteAway; and
  • enhancing access to digitized primary content through the Arca collaborative digital repository.

The 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN office also serves as the Administrative Centre for eHLbc. eHLbc provides the academic and health care community of 51ºÚÁÏÍø with easy access to online health library resources that support and improve practice, education, and research. For more information visit the .

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties may include:

  • Assisting 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN staff with technical workflows using platforms such as ConsortiaManager, Constant Contact, or Drupal, in support of core service areas.
  • Staffing the AskAway provincial chat reference service on Sundays with the possibility of shifts on Saturdays and/or weekday evenings.
  • Providing frontline support to AskAway participating libraries via the Admin Centre, including technical troubleshooting, developing documentation, supporting scheduling, and offering training, with the support of the AskAway Coordinator.
  • Supporting grant writing and communications with small 51ºÚÁÏÍø GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) organizations.
  • Developing communications targeting users, resource teams, committees, vendors, and stakeholders, including the creation and administration of online surveys/questionnaires, and development of short, online training videos for various 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN services.

Possible other duties depending on the successful candidate's qualifications:

  • Researching and writing newsletter articles.
  • Supporting the Illume provincial interlibrary loan service.
  • Providing frontline support and technical troubleshooting to small 51ºÚÁÏÍø GLAM organizations hosting their digitized content in the Arca digital repository.
  • Validating and preparing metadata for ingest into the Arca collaborative digital repository, working closely with the Arca Coordinator and partner organizations.
  • Supporting the on-going maintenance of the 51ºÚÁÏÍø ELN and eHLbc websites.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in an MLIS or dual MAS/MLIS degree program at the U51ºÚÁÏÍø iSchool.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a collegial team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Solid computer skills, with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), and content management systems such as Drupal.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure with discretion, tact, and good judgement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging library and information systems, educational tools, and databases.
  • Familiarity with website maintenance and content management systems.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as InDesign, and communications tools such as Constant Contact.
  • Experience with technical writing.
  • Knowledge of HTML and Markdown.

Work term:

Early May to Late December 2024 (21-24 hours per week)

$29.50/hour

Some work will be carried out remotely. Student Librarians will be asked to come into the physical office (Discovery 2 Building, SFU Burnaby Campus) 2 days/week.
